Kontera ContentLink Offers Contextual Advertising
If you are a blogger or webmaster that wants to monetize your sites this Kontera review should be right up your alley. There are so many options that it can easily become overwhelming to choose advertising partners to help you make money online. Recently my two main ways to advertise this site have been Google Adsense and Affiliate Marketing. I decided I want to switch things up a bit and have incorporated Kontera ContentLink contextual in-text advertising.
What is ContentLink?
Well, just to simplify, it is basically a system that links certain words in your articles to advertisements. If you notice the double link under some of the words on my website,
you are looking at an opportunity to read and possibly click on an advertisement. The link is a bit sneaky because it doesn’t look much different than your standard link.

Notice that the words blogs and marketing have two blue lines underneath… Yah, those are my Contentlink friends silently working in the background to help me make money online…
The Kontera program only works for users in the US and Canada as of now but they may decide to expand their program to other countries in the future.
How much does Kontera Content Link pay?
The payouts depend on the quality of traffic your site receives among other factors…
Currently this site makes about 10-15 cents per click or roughly about $4.25 per thousand impressions. That isn’t bad when you compare their program to others like Google Adsense, Adbrite, Adgetize, Text-Link Ads etc…
Benefits of working with Contentlink
The nice thing about their system is that you can incorporate Adsense and Kontera on the same page which is something unusual because Google usually frowns on sites that have multiple context based PPC programs on the same site. Basically the big G doesn’t want to compete with similar programs.
Another benefit of their program is that it is non-obtrusive and doesn’t require large amounts of space dedicated to advertising… Some website owners like to monetize their site without making it look cheap, by implementing Kontera they are able to make money while at the same time keeping their integrity with readers and subscribers.
Contentlink used to only be available for publishers with huge amounts of web traffic and unique visitors per month, their old requirement was that the site had to have a minimum of 250,000 page impressions monthly. They have since started offering their advertising solution to smaller website owners which is great because services like this tend to be very effective on smaller blogs.
Since implementing the program I have not seen a decrease in my Adsense revenues which means that the service is complimentary and therefore a great addition to my current monetization strategies…
Conclusion
I’ll just take a minute to list the benefits and disadvantages of the program:
Benefits:
1.) Kontera Contentlink is a reputable company that has a track record for always paying on time
2.) They have great customer support if you ever have a problem or question
3.) Easy to implement using their custom widget
4.) Does not detract from other monetization strategies like Adsense
Disadvantages:
1.) Confuses your readers with double underlined links
2.) Lack of real time statistics (stats are usually 1 day behind)
3.) Slower load time for website (someone has to populate those ads)
Currently I am running tests to see if Contentlink is affecting my Adsense revenues… It’s very important to use dependent variables to optimize your site. Personally I have an excel spreadsheet I currently use to keep track of dependent variables and each week I make an adjustment i.e. remove Kontera and monitor Adsense taking into account increases in traffic etc..
