This article is dedicated to one way link building for dummies… The thought occurred to me that I have a ton of articles about how to make money online with blogging and how to work from home and earn money from websites but how many times have I honestly explored the topic of one way links. Without one way links we will find it almost impossible to get traffic from search engines, they are the key to internet marketing and promotions.
Some people think that the trick to increasing your websites traffic is by networking and creating more subscribers to your RSS feed. Generally you would think that creating a large returning fan base would be all you need to reach success.
For the A-listers like Darren Rowse, John Chow and Carl Ocab, this approach has worked wonders and created them many lucrative private advertising contracts. For the rest of us, RSS subscribers are nice but don’t necessarily translate into more traffic or even traffic that we will be able to properly monetize.
Don’t get me wrong, it is still very important to engage your visitors in the hopes that you can develop a relationship with them that may someday turn into something you can monetize like a 3 way link exchange, a positive review with anchor text link etc… I hope to develop relationships with all of my subscribers at some point and find a way that we can work together and build our businesses through teamwork.
Writing good content can be another great way to build high quality one way backlinks but unfortunately this process will take time and wont just happen immediately. At the rate this blog is growing subscribers, I will most likely be an old man before I can properly monetize this website to provide a living for myself. Luckily I have other things cooking in the oven in addition to this blog…
There are two ways to go about getting backlinks:
1.) Keep cranking out the content and let people naturally find you, your work and hopefully some of it will happen to be relevant to their topic and they may decide reference one of your articles and place a link.
2.) Go out and actively seek these quality one way backlinks, preferably places that you can get both deep anchor text links referencing individual articles and site links.
The first method is a passive way to generate residual interest in your material in addition to residual income. The second method is one in which I prefer because the first method will happen without you doing anything except creating new articles and material. The higher the quality, the better the chance that someone will take the time to read it and if you’re lucky they may want to give you praise if it helped them.
There is a saying… 80% of the results you will receive in life will come from 20% of the work you do. What that means is that we need to find efficiencies and learn what works and what doesn’t in regard to link building and content creation so we can spend our time growing our business in ways that generate us the most benefits.
Think about it this way, for every hour you spend writing an article for your blog or website, spend ten minutes finding ways to create quality do follow backlinks to it… If you are able to spend an hour everyday creating links, there is no doubt in my mind that you will start to see your search engine listings skyrocket…
Where can I find quality backlinks?
Among other places, there are several social networking sites like:
Myspace
Facebook
YouTube
BlogCatalog
EntreCard
Create profiles for your websites on each of these services and incorporate one way anchor text backlinks that point towards your sites. It is best to use this strategy on your main website and from its up to you if you want to do the same thing with your secondary and less prominent blogs and websites.
Another way to create quality backlinks is by commenting on other people’s blogs.
If you are already commenting then here’s a tip, try to find blogs that are “dofollow,” and try your best to keep your commenting with links to related websites and blogs. If you place a few relevant comments on a couple different dofollow blogs everyday, you are certain to see improvements in your page rank among other things.
Utilize your own websites and blogs. If you have a series of related blogs or websites, set up one way anchor text links on your blogroll or incorporate them into your articles. This is a strategy that you should already be doing in regard to internal links but sometimes go a step further and link outside to another blog that you currently own.
I like to focus on a strategy called “low man on the totem pole,” what this means is that I only link higher PR blogs to lower PR blogs so that each blog is effectively pulling the next one up by its boot straps.
Another strategy you can incorporate is the creation of additional blogs used to support your current blogs… Keep in mind there is no limit to the number of blogs, emails etc that you could potentially own so spend some time creating blogs that you can use to support your anchor sites down the road. If you have a network of high PR blogs and websites, you will not be as dependent on outside parties for link exchanges and actions of link kindness.
Use forums and guestbooks to build links. Generally after signing up for a forum they will let you create a signature that will go after all of your comments. This is a great way to get traffic not only from the forums itself but also from an increase in Google search engine traffic as a result of your quality backlinks.
If you haven’t already created an account at WarriorForum.com, I would highly recommend them. Internet marketers and bloggers need to stick together and the warriorforum has been greatly helpful in building up my businesses.
Blog carnivals are a great way to get some link juice as well. If you’ve never participated in a blog carnival, basically they are places you submit your articles for and if the person that is running the carnival likes the article they will place a short excerpt on their blog carnival page with a link back to your website.
Another way to create 3 way link partners, a method that I find to be the most direct and often the most rewarding is simply reaching out to the blogger and seeing if they would be open to the possibility. Whenever I create a blog focusing on a particular niche, instead of just making one, generally I make two.
This is to facilitate the 3 way link exchange for any given niche. If you approach someone that has a niche site you would like to link to, if you let them know that it doesn’t have to be a reciprocal link because you have two blogs about the same topic with high PR, they are usually a lot more willing to negotiate.
I hope this article has been helpful and I apologize for the title i.e. one way link building for dummies. Most bloggers are actually very intelligent (not including myself…) and if you have been blogging for a long time, I’m sure you already have your linking strategies covered. However if I was able to suggest even one new idea regarding one way link building methods this article may not be considered a complete failure!
Do you have places that I have not mentioned that have been helpful in obtaining one way links?

We know blog commenting can turn into spamming, but if done right and respectfully, commenting can be a good addition to a link building strategy as you know. So we have tweaked a custom google search to search for specific keywords and only return blog posts and web pages built on a popular open source CMS that all allow dofollow links in comments. You can find the search tool at http://commentlinkbuilding.info
Being new to blogging i am still finding my way with the basic terms but it seems obvious that if you are trying to monetise your blog to eventually make a real income becoming (SEO) freindly is a top priority. This page has opened my eyes to new possibilities thankyou.
