If you read my last article entitled “Unemployment During the Great Depression,” you would probably not deny that recently we have had the economic recession confirmed.
I know this is a very grim topic to discuss but I think it’s time that we all start doing some serious thinking about the future and what role we want to play in it. As you are probably aware, most of the baby boomers are in serious trouble regarding retirement options now that the stock market has completely crashed.
What this means is that the baby boomer generation will most likely have to work as much as possible in order to survive through old age and social services will be extremely depleted by the time the next generation gets around to cashing in.
I’m not trying to cultivate a sense of fear but it seems like its time to start tackling this issue head on and not waste time living in denial. It took the mainstream news a very long time before they were willing to announce the bad news and a recession confirmed.
I wanted to take a minute and brainstorm a few things that people can do in these times of economic struggle to prepare for the future:
Gold and Silver
The first thing I would recommend is to take some of your savings if applicable and invest in precious metals like gold and silver. Historically, gold and silver have risen in value during times of economic uncertainty and if you read the news and follow the price of these precious metals, you will see that they are steadily rising in value compared to other investments like stocks and bonds. My parents used to tell me stories about the gas rations in the United States during the Cuban missile crisis.
They said that things got so bad that people in certain neighborhoods would only be able to buy gas on certain days and that lines would get so long that the gas attendant would go down the line knocking on windows asking if drivers had any silver they could spare in exchange for gas. If the driver had a silver eagle they would be moved to the front of the line and their tank filled in exchange.
Survival Preparations
I don’t like talking about this topic much because of the fear and paranoia that is placed around this subject. Realistically ever family and person should have an adequate supply of water and food in storage just in case of riots or natural disaster. This is even more important in this day and age when food shortages are even being admitted by our governments. Our reserve supply of grains and staples are dangerously low and having a personal reserve of basic necessities is a good idea regardless of the circumstances. There is a reason the term “better safe than sorry” exists so why not take a few bucks and try to cover your self, believe me just the peace of mind will be worth the small investment.
Create a Business or Find a Job that is Recession Proof
In reality, no job is completely insulated from economic uncertainty however if you own a business or work for a company that focuses on necessities which I would consider as food, water, shelter, drugs and entertainment you will probably fare better than the average business owner or employee that is in a filed that could be considered “expendable.” Many people have recently lost their jobs and their businesses and most of their industries would not be considered “recession proof.”
For the most part this website focuses on teaching people how to make a living online by creating a blog or website that creates advertising revenue and affiliate sales and participating in money making message boards and programs. This article and the last article posted entitled “Unemployment During the Great Depression” are both slightly grim in nature but are based on subjects that I feel are extremely relevant in regard to internet marketing.
No matter if your business revolves around making money online or making money in the physical world nobody can be successful in a bubble, understanding market trends and capitalizing on them is a must if you want to make a decent living under the most turbulent of times. Both of these terms have a significant amount of search traffic so note that you are not alone in your search for information. The more we work together during these times the better our chances of weathering the storm.
Even with the recession confirmed, we all knew that things had taken a turn for the worse months before it was announced on the news… Now it is time to rebuild our communities and focus on sustainable growth and spending with each other rather then letting our hard earned money go to multi-national corporations like Wal-Mart and McDonalds…

Gold and silver are likely to remain safer than most other investments for the forseeable future, but I’m skeptical that silver coins could act as an alternative means of exchange. The vast majority of the public has no experience with silver and wouldn’t see them as any different from a clad coin.
